Prepare for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Conference in San Francisco, scheduled for November 11-18, 2023.

The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Conference will be held in San Francisco from November 11 – 18, 2023. Elected leaders and nearly 30,000 delegates will participate. Be prepared for impacts across the city and around Chinese Hospital.

Please plan for traffic and transportation impacts throughout the city, including on the Bay Bridge, during this event. Patients should allow additional time for commuting to and from Chinese Hospital throughout the APEC meeting, as travel times may be extended.

Security

City:

  • Security zones, checkpoints, and road and station closures have been established around the conference at the Moscone Center and additional conference-related events across the Bay Area.
  • Security zones are determined by the United States Secret Service and are subject to change.
  • People who live or work in the area bounded by Second, Market, Fifth and Harrison streets will be redirected around the security zones.
  • Please see map of affected areas.

Chinese Hospital:

  • Currently, there are no confirmed threats or concerns for Chinese Hospital as it relates to this event.
  • Please be alert of your surroundings. If you see something suspicious, say something. Call 911.
  • Be aware that there will be increased law enforcement presence throughout the city in support of this event.
  • Chinese Hospital Senior Management team is prepared for APEC and are working in collaboration with local, state and federal officials.

Street Closures and Parking

City:

  • Vehicular, public transportation and pedestrian impacts are expected, especially in the downtown area around the Moscone Center, the San Francisco waterfront area and the Nob Hill neighborhood. Give yourself an extra 30 minutes to travel to affected locations. 
  • Streets and freeway ramps in the South of Market neighborhood will be closed from November 14-19.
  • The Highway 101 Dana Bowers Vista Point off-ramp north of the Golden Gate Bridge will be closed from November 14-18.
  • On the Bay Bridge, one lane of traffic will be closed on both eastbound and westbound I-80 from November 14-17, plus there will be controlled access to the bike and pedestrian path.
  • Portions of various streets may also be temporarily blocked off as motorcades move through the city.
  • Parking restrictions should be expected. All vehicles parked in violation of emergency no parking signs will be ticketed and towed. Restrictions will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 10 p.m. and extend through Saturday, Nov. 18.
  • On-street parking will be unavailable within security zones.
  • The Moscone Center Garage and Fifth and Mission/Yerba Buena Garage will be closed for the duration of the event. Public parking will remain available at other SFMTA garages.
  • Travel predictions and third-party navigation apps may not display information properly during this period.
