In celebration of Asian Pacific Islander (API) Heritage Month, Chinese Hospital and CCHP proudly hosted the Chinatown Wellness Festival, welcoming hundreds of community members for a meaningful day of cultural celebration, connection, and care. Held at the Rose Pak Station Upper Plaza in the heart of Chinatown, the event reflected the organizations’ long-standing commitment to health equity, community empowerment, and culturally competent care.

Chinese Hospital has served the community for more than 125 years and continues to focus on improving the health and well-being of all residents in San Francisco. The festival served as a living example of this mission, bringing essential health services into the community in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Throughout the day, attendees received free health screenings including blood pressure checks, glucose and bone density testing, BMI assessments, and hepatitis B screenings. These services were offered in a culturally sensitive environment, helping ensure that language and accessibility barriers did not prevent individuals from taking charge of their health. The festival also included educational sessions focused on spine health, stroke care, and emergency preparedness—empowering community members with knowledge and tools to support long-term wellness.

“This festival is a reflection of our commitment to health equity and community empowerment,” said Dr. Jian Zhang, CEO of Chinese Hospital. “As we honor API Heritage Month, we also reaffirm our responsibility to ensure that care is not only accessible but inclusive, respectful, and responsive to the unique needs of our diverse population.”

One of the highlights of the event was a traditional lion dance performance. This lively celebration of culture honored the strength and heritage of API communities and emphasized the importance of unity and wellness.

The event was made possible through the collective efforts of dedicated partners including UCSF Health, the San Francisco Department of Public Health, San Francisco Fire Department, Chinese Community Health Resource Center (CCHRC), Community Youth Center of San Francisco (CYC), On Lok, Self-Help for the Elderly, SF Hep B Free, NationsBenefits, Astrana Health, Community Living Campaign, and the Community Ambassador Program. Chinese Hospital and CCHP extend their heartfelt thanks to all partners and volunteers who helped create a supportive, multilingual environment where residents could access vital services and health information tailored to their cultural context.
