In celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, Chinese Hospital and CCHP hosted the Chinatown Wellness Festival in partnership with San Francisco District 3 Supervisor Danny Sauter and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA). Held at the Rose Pak Station in the heart of Chinatown, the event welcomed hundreds of community members for a day of health services, cultural celebration, and community connection. The festival also marked a special milestone—celebrating CCHP’s 40 years of dedicated service to the community.
“The Chinatown Wellness Festival is a powerful reminder that community care is at the heart of public health. By bringing together free health screenings, resources, and family-friendly activities, this event ensures our neighbors, especially seniors and working families, have access to the care and information they deserve. We’re proud to support efforts that uplift the wellbeing of Chinatown and create a healthier, more connected San Francisco.” Supervisor Danny Sauter, District 3.
For more than 127 years, Chinese Hospital has been committed to improving the health and well-being of San Francisco Bay Area residents. The Wellness Festival brought this mission into the community by providing essential health services in an accessible setting. Building on this shared mission, CCHP was established in 1986 to expand access to affordable healthcare coverage, particularly for underserved communities and small businesses. Now celebrating its 40th anniversary, CCHP continues to support its members with accessible, culturally responsive healthcare services.
Throughout the day, attendees received free health screenings and access to a variety of community resources. Services were provided in both English and Chinese to ensure accessibility for all. Educational sessions on early detection, chronic disease prevention, and emergency preparedness further equipped individuals and families with practical knowledge to support long-term health.
“This festival reflects our deep commitment to providing care that is accessible, inclusive, and culturally responsive,” said Michael Chung, CEO of Chinese Hospital. “AAPI Heritage Month is a meaningful opportunity to celebrate our community, culture, and legacy, while reaffirming our commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care and strengthening the connections that have defined Chinese Hospital for more than a century.”
“CCHP was founded to ensure our community has access to quality, affordable healthcare that respects their language and culture,” said Ketan Gima, COO of CCHP. “For 40 years, we have remained committed to supporting our members and strengthening community health. Events like this allow us to connect directly with those we serve and continue building healthier communities together.”
A key highlight of the festival was a hepatitis B awareness lecture presented in partnership with Gilead, featuring Dr. Francis Yao from UCSF. The session provided important insights on prevention, screening, and treatment, reinforcing the importance of early detection and ongoing care.
The success of the Chinatown Wellness Festival 2026 was made possible through the collaboration of dedicated partners and volunteers. Chinese Hospital and CCHP extend their sincere thanks to all who helped create a welcoming environment for the community to access vital health services and resources.
