Chinese Hospital is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of its 2025 Board of Trustees Installation Ceremony, held on January 24th. This event introduced the distinguished board members who will guide the hospital’s strategic vision for the coming year.
Established in 1899, Chinese Hospital has remained a cornerstone of the San Francisco community, delivering quality healthcare tailored to the community’s unique ethnic and cultural heritage.
During the ceremony, the 2025 Board of Trustees was formally introduced, with Dr. Roger S. Eng elected as the new Chair and Mr. Harvey Louie re-elected as Vice Chair.
In the welcoming remarks, Dr. Jian Zhang, CEO of Chinese Hospital, expressed gratitude and optimism for the year ahead, stating: “I am honored to welcome the 2025 Chinese Hospital Board of Trustees, led by Dr. Roger S. Eng and Mr. Harvey Louie. I deeply appreciate their commitment and dedication, which will undoubtedly guide our hospital to continued success. I would also like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Kin F. Yee for his exceptional leadership and service as Chair. My thanks go out to our partners, supporters, management team, medical staff, and employees for their unwavering contributions to making Chinese Hospital a premier healthcare institution.”
Despite the challenges, Chinese Hospital has achieved remarkable milestones in 2024. Key accomplishments in 2024 include:
- Celebrating 125 Years of Service: Honored the hospital’s history and legacy as a trusted healthcare provider for generations.
- National Recognition: Named in Newsweek’s Best-in-State Hospitals for the second consecutive year and received the American Heart Association’s Stroke Gold award for excellence in stroke care. Designated a Center of Excellence by GO2 for Lung Cancer.
- Public Health Leadership: Launched the Hepatitis B Demonstration Project with California Department of Public Health (CDPH) to improve access to care in underserved communities.
- Specialty Care Expansion: Strengthened partnerships with UCSF Health, including pulmonary services, to bring world-class care closer to the community.
- Skilled Nursing Facility Licensing: Secured licensure for a Skilled Nursing Facility and achieved Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) certification, providing high-quality care for long-term patients.
Dr. Kin F. Yee, the outgoing Board Chair, reflected on his tenure: “I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve as Chair during such a pivotal time for Chinese Hospital. Together, we navigated challenges, celebrated milestones, and reinforced our commitment to providing exceptional care. I am confident that under Dr. Eng’s leadership, the hospital will continue to thrive and serve our community with excellence.”
Dr. Roger S. Eng, the newly elected Chair of the Board of Trustees, shared his vision for the future: “I am honored to lead the Chinese Hospital Board of Trustees in 2025. I extend my gratitude to the board for their trust, and to our management team, medical staff, and employees for their tireless efforts in upholding our commitment to exceptional healthcare.”
Dr. Eng continued, “The challenges ahead are significant, but I am confident in our collective ability to provide innovative, compassionate care that addresses the evolving needs of our community.”
Dr. Eng outlined key priorities for his tenure:
- Establish a state-of-the-art Cancer Center to offer oncology and chemotherapy services to better serve patients.
- Continue efforts to establish the hospital-based subacute care unit to meet the demand for long-term care.
- Prioritize physician recruitment to tackle critical staffing shortages and ensure continuity of care.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Dr. Eng urged government officials and community supporters to continue their vital support in helping Chinese Hospital meet the community’s evolving healthcare needs. He specifically acknowledged former Assemblymember Phil Ting for his efforts in securing funding for the subacute care unit project. Dr. Eng also encouraged the community to champion Chinese Hospital by choosing it for their healthcare needs and considering CCHP as their health plan of choice.
“With your continued support, Chinese Hospital will not only meet the challenges of today but thrive for the future,” Dr. Eng affirmed.
