Dr. John Maa is a General Surgeon at Chinese Hospital and our clinic network, where he sees patients and performs procedures.
He brings over 20 years of surgical experience and received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed his surgical training at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where he also served on the faculty.
Dr. Maa provides comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for a wide range of conditions, offering both surgical and non-surgical care. His expertise includes conditions affecting the abdomen, digestive tract, endocrine system, breast, skin, and blood vessels.
He has cared for patients throughout the Bay Area, including serving as Chief of the Division of General and Acute Care Surgery at Marin General Hospital. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Maa is actively involved in community and public health initiatives, including research on e-bike safety across California.
Dr. Maa has held leadership roles with the American College of Surgeons, contributed to statewide health programs through the University of California, and served as President of the San Francisco Marin Medical Society. He is also a U.S. Army Reserve veteran.

Dr. Zi Ying Li is a board-certified rheumatologist at Chinese Hospital & Clinics, specializing in the diagnosis and management of autoimmune and musculoskeletal conditions. She is committed to providing compassionate, patient-centered care.
Dr. Li completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco Fresno, and her fellowship in Rheumatology at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She is board certified in both Rheumatology and Internal Medicine.
She provides comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for conditions affecting the joints, muscles, and connective tissues, including systemic diseases with rheumatic manifestations. Her goal is to help patients manage chronic conditions, reduce symptoms, and improve their overall quality of life.
Dr. Li has cared for patients in both California and Rhode Island, serving diverse and underserved communities. She also has experience in hospital medicine and has taught medical students and residents, reflecting her commitment to education and collaborative care.
Fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, Dr. Li connects with and supports a diverse patient population.

Dr. George Su sees patients at the Pulmonology Clinic at Chinese Hospital. He is also a Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and brings many years of experience in caring for patients with lung and respiratory conditions.
Dr. Su received his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Diego, followed by fellowship training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at UCSF.
He has extensive experience in San Francisco’s public health system and plays a leadership role at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, where he helps oversee programs focused on asthma, COPD, and other respiratory diseases.
Dr. Su provides comprehensive care for a wide range of lung and breathing conditions affecting the lungs, airways, and chest. He evaluates symptoms, makes diagnoses, and develops personalized treatment plans. He also works closely with patients to manage related health conditions, ensuring coordinated and accessible care.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Su is a dedicated educator and mentor. He is recognized for his commitment to improving patient care and expanding access to treatment, particularly for underserved communities.
