The Richmond Community Health Fair, co-hosted by Chinese Hospital and CCHP, in partnership with Community Youth Center of San Francisco (CYCSF) and UCSF Health successfully brought essential healthcare services and wellness resources directly to the Richmond District community on March 8th. Designed to make healthcare more accessible, the event emphasized preventive care, health awareness, and early detection, ensuring residents had the tools and information they needed to prioritize their well-being.

Through free health screenings, educational resources, and interactive wellness activities, attendees had access to vital services, including blood pressure checks, glucose testing, bone density screening, hepatitis B education, stroke care awareness, and spine health education. The event encouraged the community to take a proactive approach to their health, reinforcing the importance of prevention and early intervention.

“We want to bring healthcare closer to the community and make preventive care more accessible,” said Dr. Jian Zhang, Chinese Hospital CEO. “By providing these services in a familiar setting, we hope to encourage residents to take charge of their health and seek early detection and prevention strategies.”
A key aspect of the health fair was its commitment to linguistically and culturally competent care. Bilingual healthcare professionals and volunteers provided assistance in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and other languages, ensuring that residents could receive health information and screenings in a way that was both comfortable and accessible.

Beyond health screenings, the fair featured educational sessions on chronic disease prevention, while local community organizations and healthcare providers offered additional resources and support, including emergency preparedness information. This event was supported by Chinese Community Health Resource Center (CCHRC), San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH), Community Living Campaign, San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD), Self-Help for the Elderly, SF Hep B Free, and YMCA (Richmond).

“Ensuring the health and wellness of our community, especially our at-risk population, is vital, and bringing in-language, accessible care directly to the neighborhood makes our entire community healthier,” said Supervisor Connie Chan. “I am grateful to Chinese Hospital, CCHP, and the Community Youth Center for their partnership in providing on site testing, education, and preventative screenings to our District 1 community. When we work together, not only are we able to deliver higher quality of care for our most vulnerable communities, we anticipate better efficacy and even larger cost savings in the future.”

The Richmond Community Health Fair is part of Chinese Hospital’s ongoing mission to make healthcare more convenient and accessible for all communities. By working with local partners, Chinese Hospital continues to promote preventive care and health education, empowering residents to take proactive steps toward healthier lives.
