The Sunset Community Health Fair, co-hosted by Chinese Hospital and CCHP, in partnership with District 4 Supervisor Alan Wong, brought essential healthcare services and local resources directly to the Sunset District community on March 29 at the Sunset Recreation Center. The event focused on improving access to preventive care through health screenings, education, and community resources.

Community members received free services including blood pressure checks, glucose testing, bone density screening, hepatitis B testing, hearing testing, stroke care awareness, and medication education. By providing these services within the community, the health fair encouraged residents to take a proactive approach to their health and highlighted the importance of prevention and early detection.

“Chinese Hospital has always been rooted in the communities we serve,” said Michael Chung, CEO of Chinese Hospital. “Community partnerships play a vital role in improving access to care, and by bringing healthcare services and education directly into our neighborhoods, we can help ensure residents have the resources they need to stay healthy.”

Chinese Hospital has a long history of serving the Sunset community. Thirty years ago, as many Chinatown residents moved to other neighborhoods, Chinese Hospital opened its first satellite clinic—Sunset Health Services—in the Sunset District. This expansion reflected the hospital’s commitment to follow the community and ensure continued access to healthcare services within the community. Today, Sunset Health Services provides comprehensive care, offering primary care and multiple specialty services to meet the healthcare needs of the neighborhood.

Beyond screenings, the event also provided bilingual health education and community resources, with local organizations and healthcare professionals sharing information on chronic disease prevention and emergency preparedness. Providing linguistically and culturally competent care was an important component of the health fair, ensuring that community members could comfortably receive health information, ask questions, and access screenings in their preferred language.

“In the Sunset, we know how important it is to have accessible services close to home,” said Supervisor Alan Wong. “I still remember going to the Chinese Hospital clinic on Noriega across from Safeway when I was growing up. Today, having a multi-specialty clinic right here in the neighborhood continues to make a meaningful difference for our community. When services reflect the language and needs of our community, people are more likely to seek them out and benefit from them. Making sure families can access care without unnecessary barriers is part of how we build a healthier, more connected district.”

The Sunset Community Health Fair reflects Chinese Hospital’s ongoing mission to make healthcare more convenient and accessible for all communities. By partnering with local leaders and community organizations, Chinese Hospital continues to expand outreach efforts that promote prevention, education, and early detection—empowering residents to take proactive steps toward healthier lives.
