We are pleased to welcome Dr. Jenta Shen, our newest board-certified gynecologic oncologist and gynecologist, to the Chinese Hospital clinic team! With 50 years of experience in women’s reproductive health, Dr. Shen brings unmatched knowledge, skill, and dedication to caring for our patients.
Dr. Shen specializes in evaluating abnormal gynecologic results and treating complex reproductive health conditions, including gynecologic cancers. He creates personalized treatment plans to meet each patient’s unique needs and works closely with a team of specialists to ensure every patient receives comprehensive and supportive care.
Known for his kindness and patient-centered approach, Dr. Shen takes the time to help patients feel comfortable and informed throughout their health journey. Fluent in English, Mandarin, and Taiwanese, he is able to connect with our diverse community and provide culturally sensitive care.
Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Shen has held leadership positions in both academic and clinical settings and has played an important role in advancing women’s health care.
We are pleased to welcome Dr. Nikolaj Wolfson to the Chinese Hospital. Dr. Wolfson is a world-renowned orthopedic surgeon with over four decades of experience in orthopedic reconstruction, joint replacement, and trauma care, including orthopedic and sports-related injuries. He is widely recognized for his clinical expertise, commitment to innovation, and compassionate, patient-centered care. His expertise supports the Chinese Hospital’s mission to expand access to high-quality specialty care and ensure our patients receive comprehensive services without the need to travel outside the community.
Dr. Wolfson was among the first orthopedic surgeons to introduce the Direct Anterior Approach for hip replacement surgery, having performed over 1,500 successful hip replacement procedures. This minimally invasive technique offers faster recovery, less post-operative pain, and a quicker return to everyday activities. He was also one of the first in San Francisco to utilize ConforMIS customized knee implants, designed to precisely match each patient’s unique knee anatomy for improved fit and function.
In the 1980s, Dr. Wolfson trained in the Illizarov Technique under Professor G.A. Illizarov in Russia. He became one of the earliest orthopedic surgeons in North America to apply this innovative method for limb lengthening and deformity correction in both children and adults.
Dr. Wolfson is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of SICOT’s Trauma Committee, and an active volunteer in global disaster relief missions. He is also a member Orthopaedic Trauma Association.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Wolfson is deeply involved in research and innovation. He has collaborated with researchers at Caltech on the development of advanced orthopedic metal alloys and holds multiple patents in orthopedic device technology. He also serves as Chief Editor and co-author of “Orthopedics in Disasters”, a best-selling textbook published by Springer Nature.
